Let's Bring the Photo Gallery Back!
It's been a sleepy year for the Photo Gallery. Let's wake it up!
Chuck McLaughlin, our Gallery administrator (and website host), has added a new category for 2009 pictures. Now we need you to start filling it up.
Do you have digital pictures from any Club events, this year? Do you have pictures from your boat, the docks, or other non-Club events that you'd like to share? Here's how:
Go to the Photo Gallery, click on 'Register' (upper right area), and go through the process of creating a user name and password for yourself. Once you have created an account, log in to the Photo Gallery.
Now, notice you have a new option in the upper right area: 'Upload Photos'. You can upload pictures from your computer by browsing to their location. (If your pictures are rather large and you don't know how to size them down, don't worry - the program automatically resizes the pictures.)
When you upload pictures, you choose which category to put them in, from a drop-down list. If there isn't currently a specific Club event category (i.e., Halloween Party 2009), you may post them to the general category for the year (e.g., Bayview Boat Club 2009). When the administrator reviews them, he may create an appropriate event category, and move them there. You may want some pictures filed only in your personal gallery (choose 'Member Galleries'), which is created when you create your account. A copy of every picture you upload is also placed in your personal gallery, by default. To view pictures in the Member Galleries, one must have created an account and be logged in.
During the first stage of the posting process, you'll write a general title for the batch of photos you're uploading. During the second stage, you'll see thumbnails of your pics, and you have the option to edit the title for each photo.
The gallery is moderated. Uploaded pictures are put on hold until Chuck checks to make sure there's nothing clearly inappropriate, and releases them. We use a "PG-13" standard, and, we hope, common sense on your part. Have fun, but don't post pictures that would be damaging if they "got loose" in the world (duh!). Don't post pics that you know will offend or humiliate another Club member. Try not to be over-sensitive, but if a picture winds up on the site that you think crosses the line, please let us know - things slip through, sometimes. If someone posts a picture of you that you want taken down, let us know. It's gone.
OK, enough with the disclaimers - we've never really had any problems with that stuff. Upload away, and let's see if we can bring our dormant Photo Galley back to life!

Pat Berger Passed Away in Sleep, Nov. 2
For the second time in as many months, we are shocked by the unexpected loss of one of our dear friends. Pat Berger passed away in his sleep, in the early hours of Monday, Nov. 2.
Sunday, he had been out at the marina, watching the game with "the gang". He had a headache and was beginning to feel the chills, when he went to bed, that night. Susan said he didn't respond to the alarm at 5:00 am, Monday morning. She discovered he had passed quietly, sometime in the night. It was later determined he had suffered a heart attack. He was 45.

Pat had many friends at Bayview. In past years, PatPat cutting up at the lake 2006 served on our club board in a number of positions, including Vice Commodore, and was a key planner of our beach parties, and our 'Thunder for the Children' charity events. His sense of humor and thoughtfulness are greatly missed.
Please hold Susan and Pat's parents, along with Pat's close friends, in your thoughts and prayers, as they deal with this sudden, devastating loss.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 6, at the Restland Memorial Chapel, in Dallas.

Katie Gilbert Dalhem Passed Away on Aug. 31
Katie, wife of Richard Dalhem, suffered a heart attack on Friday, Aug. 28, in New York, and died on Aug. 31.
Richard and Katie are long time and much-loved Bayview folks, friends to many in the Boat Club and marina. In recent years, they first downsized, then sold their boat, and then their house, as they pursued the dream of buying a large sailboat, and moving to Belize. This summer, they bought the 60' catamaran, Catbalu, in New York. They were dividing their time between Dallas and New York, overseeing the process of bringing her fully back into shape, before heading for the Caribbean.
Katie and Richard
On that Friday, Richard was in Dallas, and Katie was on the boat, alone. She began to experience what turned out to be a massive heart attack. She tried to get off the boat, but fell, hitting and gashing her head. This injury is not thought to have had anything to do with her death. People on the dock rushed to her aid, and she was taken to the hospital.
Richard and her two daughters, Alexis and Nicki Gilbert, flew to New York to be with her. Katie was Catholic, and a priest attended to her and her family. Doctors had placed her in an induced coma. On Monday, Aug. 31, doctors informed her family that Katie had no brain activity. She was removed from life support, and passed peacefully, within a couple of hours.
Katie was able to serve others as an organ donor. She was cremated in New York, and brought back to Dallas. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 12:30 PM, at the Restland Memorial Chapel, in Dallas.
