'M' Dock
Saturday, December 8, about 7:00PM
Location: After the Boat Parade, around the 'N' Dock pavilion, at Bayview Marina
Event Flyer (opens in a new window)
Event Wrap-up:
As the decorated boats were returning from the Parade of Lights, the 'Deck the
Docks' Party was all ready underway. (Our thanks to Pat
Berger, for taking charge and getting the food laid out for all
our hungry members and guests, while the officers were still trying to
make it back to our slips.) People brought an abundant assortment of
tasty foods and desserts. Along with the usual beer and sodas, we also
had some special holiday drinks. Of these, the hot spiced cider was a
real hit, even though the night was almost too warm for hot drinks!
Sandy McGowan was especially impressed. She transformed
into a spiced cider evangelist, leading one person after another by the
hand to the drink table.
People were having such a "festive" time, it was hard to stop the music
and merriment long enough to announce the
various award and prize
winners. Skippers of the 'Best Decorated' Boats in
the 'Parade of Lights' received a trophy and bottle of champagne. Next,
we had a drawing and gave prizes to several parade participants.
Finally, we gave awards for the Best Decorated Slip and
the Best Overall Dock. (Link
to awards results) Then it was back to eating and drinking, music
and dancing on the dock. We never quite managed a group dock walk or
singing of carols, but that's OK. Everyone was having such a good time,
it seemed best not to "interrupt".
We were certainly blessed with a night of unseasonably mild weather for
our boat parade, and our party afterwards. Later in the evening, the
forecast cold-front finally began to arrive. Some folks had started in
short sleeves and even shorts, but had to don long sleeves or sweaters
to finish the party. Within a few hours after the end of the party, it
was very windy, cold and miserable. If that front had arrived 8 hours
earlier, it would have made all the difference,... in a bad
way!
Special thanks to everyone who brought food, and who decorated for the
parade and/or party. Thanks to DJ, Jeremiah Sherman, for
providing music. Thanks to Julie Nelson for taking lots
of great pictures and posting 'em so quickly in the
Photo Gallery.
And, on behalf of Deloris Sanders
and John Lambert, and the WFAA Santa's Helpers
Toy Drive, thanks and God bless all of you who donated toys
at the party, or dropped one by the marina office. That's the spirit!
