Bayview Boat Club
Parking Lot "Garage" Sale

at Bayview Marina

Saturday, June 7, 2008, 8:00am - 2:00pm

Location: The parking lot at Bayview Marina,
600 Cooke Drive, Rowlett, Texas.

Event Wrap-up: The Big Bayview Boat Club Parking Lot "Garage" Sale was a great success! We raised $1,150 for club activities, and donated a full trailer of unsold items to a Mesquite charity.

Our thanks to everyone who dropped off stuff for the sale. Thanks to Jim Rosenberg, for providing us a space for the sale and for donating some office furniture and other miscellaneous items. Thanks to Don Riggs for providing the use of his big box trailer. It allowed the team to move sorted and priced items up to the sale site earlier in the week, and lock them in the trailer.

People began arriving early, Saturday morning, and sales were brisk. But by 11:00, things had slowed down considerably. Lots of looking, but not much buying, as the best deals had been taken. Don Riggs livened things up by announcing to browsers: "Everything you can fit in a bag, $3 a bag". When the flurry of activity died down, it was, "Okay, now $1 a bag". That strategy moved a bunch more stuff. By early afternoon, everyone was worn out and it was time to wind things up. All the unsold items - furniture, house wares, clothing, etc. - were loaded into Don's trailer. Don took it to a charity in Mesquite that he works with. They provide single mothers with emergency material assistance, but also training in occupational and life skills, within an environment of high accountability.

We appreciate everyone who helped with the sale such a success - thank you! But we owe a special big thank you to John and Jeannie (and Fonda!), for taking on the lion's share of the effort. Jeannie worked hard (and worked John hard) all week, collecting, sorting, organizing and pricing. Then, with assistance from John, Fonda and some others, everything was moved up to the sale site, on Thursday and Friday. (This saved everyone else the work of trying to get the stuff from M Dock to the parking lot in the very early hours of Saturday morning.) Great job, Mr. and Mrs. Commodore!
