Annual Lighted Boat Parade

beginning 6:00 PM
Location/Schedule:
After some initial confusion, the boats lined up, outside the
north entrance to Bayview Marina.
Bayview Marina: The parade
came through the north
entrance, at about 6:00 PM, turned south, along the
inside of the breakwater, then exited from the south opening in the
breakwater.
Chandler's Landing Marina: The boats passed by,
south to north, at about 6:25 PM.
The Harbor in
Rockwall: The boats passed by,
beginning at about 6:35 PM.
Finally, the parade turned and traveled west, along the I-30 bridge,
towards Bayview
Marina.
Wrap-up:
The annual 'Parade of Lights' on Lake Ray Hubbard is one of our favorite traditions, fun and
memorable for both participants and spectators. Decorated and lighted
boats from Bayview, Chandlers Landing and Captain's Cove marinas combine to make up our festive holiday flotilla.
This year, the temperature was mild, with
no wind at all. The lake was like a reflecting sea of glass. As our
boats passed The
Harbor, we were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd of cheering, chanting,
picture-taking spectators. As the procession turned, and travelled along
the I-30 bridge, traffic slowed to a crawl and people honked. A couple
of times, there was even the alarming sound of slamming brakes and
screeching tires - whoa, look out! Afterwards, awards were
presented for the Best Decorated
Boats, at our club Christmas party.
Our thanks to everyone who came out to watch us. We hope you enjoyed
the show!
We had hoped to present encore parades on Dec. 13 and/or 20. Alas, the weather conditions did not cooperate.
