Event Wrap-up:
What great weather, after all. The
forecasted thunderstorms never arrived. At one point, some pretty
dark clouds peeked over the trees, but they decided not to mess
with us. Instead, sunburn was rampant.
We had hot dogs, links, sausages and kraut, two kinds of keg beer, sodas and
cold bottled water.
Just over 20 boats rafted-up well offshore (some thought this was a record
number for
Ray Hubbard). It was a long swim from the raft-up to the kegs, and I
think most opted to
just drink whatever they had on board - beer, mouthwash, cologne. Others
anchored close-in or beached. This made the partiers more dispersed
than previous years. (At next month's beach party, we'll focus on
getting the rafted boats, and everyone else, closer in.)
Later in the afternoon, we gave away a bottle of Capt. Morgan and of Two Fingers tequila,
the prizes for best decorated hats, to Mark and Vance. Somehow, the
bottles quickly wound up in the ladies hands:
Thanks to all of you who entertained us with your hats. Our special thanks to Don Riggs, for providing all our ice, and to Alan and Debbie Lyon, for logistical support. Also, thanks to Weekends Restaurant, for letting us store our kegs and meat in their coolers on the eve of the party. It saves us a lot of ice and icing-down time, when the kegs are already cold.
